The following is an example of a typical preoperative routine. Depending on the cosmetic surgery procedure you are having, your age, and overall health status, the routine may vary;

Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgery CareDr Stevens requests that if possible you should return for another consultation prior to your surgery. At that visit, the operative plan is reviewed and you are given every opportunity to have all or your questions answered. Lab work will be ordered and possibly a letter of medical clearance form your primary care physician will be requested. If you are having breast surgery then a mammogram may be ordered as well.

Two weeks prior to your surgery it is very important to avoid taking aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as Advil, Motrin or Aleve. These medications may cause increase in bruising or abnormal bleeding during surgery. There are many over the counter medications that contain aspirin and a list of these medications will be given to you at your preoperative visit. Certain herbs and vitamins should also be restricted.

It is also best to avoid alcohol and very salty foods for three days before surgery to prevent your skin from retaining fluid and swelling. The night before your surgery, do not have anything to eat or drink after midnight in order to insure that you have an empty stomach prior to your anesthesia. If needed you may take your essential medications with a tiny sip of water on the morning of your procedure.
